Random Facts / Tidbits

- In 1995, Steve was mulling over whether to take the RGS to a major U.S. network.
In fact, a parody of this situation was done in the fifth season in an episode called "The
Network Deal". In it, the network decided the show needed a woman, hence "Network
Bernice", the first woman ever to appear on the RGS.

- In early 1995, Scottish TV was rumoured to have been interested in inviting Red to Scotland
to film some episodes of Red returning to his ancestral homeland. Alas, the deal fell through
when it turned out they wanted to produce a kiddie show.

- Red makes appearances at various PBS telethons and such and there is usually a Duct Tape
Project competition. Once there were the two guys in Michigan who invited Red out to the
parking lot to see their "Possum Lodge 'Vette." Turned out to be a Chevette. They had even
duct-taped a pair of gloves to the back so your hands wouldn't get cold when you pushed it!

- For those of you who still wonder, his voice is NOT always scratchy- he actually has a
very soft and mellow voice. The funny part is, he says that his "Red" voice is actually easier
for him to do lots of talking - his regular voice wears out his vocal chords more.

- A Bob Doidge did some of the instrumentals on U2's "The Joshua Tree" (he's listed on the
last page of the liner notes). Bob Doidge is also listed as musical director of the RGS. Since
"The Joshua Tree" was produced by Daniel Lanois, a Hamilton resident and who operates a
major studio in Hamilton, the chances are good that it is one and the same Bob Doidge.

- The yellow license plates on the Possum Van are known as 'dealer plates' in Ontario (regular
plates are white). They are used by dealers who move the plates between lots of vehicles.

- Dougie Franklin's truck is nicknamed "Imelda", Glen Braxton's RV is named "Delores", and
Buzz Sherwood's plane is called "Beauty".

- Red also says that possums don't normally make the noise you hear when lodge meetings are
called to order, but "if they cross the road slowly and you get one of those semis coming by,
usually by the 17th wheel you get that little squeal".

- At a fundraiser in Green Bay, someone asked "Are those Harold's real teeth?". Without hesitating,
Red/Steve replied, "The teeth are real. The rest of his head is fake."

- S&S was worried that raising the fan club price to 10 bucks would have slowed down new
memberships- instead, they've increased!

- One of Red's favorite handyman projects was adding gull-wing doors to a 1978 Ford Granada
using a garage-door opener. (Seen in the first season)

- The "Adventures with Bill" theme music was written, produced, and recorded at the studio.
They have some great internal musical talent that worked with Steve to come up the the tune!

- The old Possum Van was a 1985 Dodge Ram van. In Season 10, after appearing in 200 episodes,
Red decided to retire it and convert it into an airboat. The new Possum Van is a much newer model,
but it's not the extended version.

- Although the Possum Lodge Word Game is supposed to last 30 seconds, most average around 60.

- During a taping of the final season, Steve joked that 'We get a lot of the vehicles used on
the show from a place called 'Mr. Used'- which is right next to 'Mr. Hot'!". This is probably
a reference to the 2004 house arrest of Christopher Campagnolo, owner of Terry's Garage Ltd
(who has also provided automotive equipment for the show) after pleading guilty to possessing
stolen trucks and auto parts.

- Joel Harris (stunt co-ordinator and 'Walter') was unable to contribute to the final season
because he was still recuperating from injuries sustained in an early 2005 snowboarding accident.
